How do you say the year in Dutch?

Years from 2000 onwards are read as a normal number: 2026 is "tweeduizend zesentwintig". Older years are split in hundreds: 1995 is "negentienhonderdvijfennegentig".

How Dutch dates work

A Dutch date is simply day number + month — for example 15 maart (vijftien maart, "the 15th of March"). Put the weekday in front and the year at the end when you need them: maandag 15 maart 2026.

Weekdays all end in -dag: maandag, dinsdag, woensdag, donderdag, vrijdag, zaterdag, zondag.
Months look a lot like English: januari, februari, maart, april, mei, juni, juli, augustus, september, oktober, november, december.
No capitals: days and months are written in lower case in Dutch.
Day numbers are ordinary numbers in speech (vijftien maart). In formal speech you also hear the ordinal: de vijftiende maart.

Learn the seven weekdays and twelve months as vocabulary first — the time, days & months list has them with audio.
Make sure your Dutch numbers are solid, especially 21–31 (eenendertig = "one-and-thirty").
